Mangosteen pericarp meal is rich in active ingredients that have antioxidant effects, at similar strength to commonly used vitamin E. This innovation is about using this mangosteen pericarp meal for laying hens in place of vitamin E, to overcome chicken’s heat stress problem. The in-vivo test results show that mangosteen pericarp meal supplementation of 2 g/kg, replaces vitamin E of 200 mg/kg, to obtain similar results in terms of gene HSP 70 response of the laying hens. In turns, this results in optimum chemical quality of eggs, as measured by the increase of SOD antioxidant enzymes, and the decrease of TBARS free radicals activities.
